u-boot_mod is more free than upstream u-boot. It only has the code needed to support a handful of routers. In the future, we may include a modified version of u-boot for ar71xx targets, but that is quite a ways away. It is one of the many projects that I've been working on pertaining to libreCMC, but it takes a lot of work to make happen. U-boot support will come with the added liability when people brick their routers (because if you break u-boot, you will need a chip clip and SPI programmer to unbrick the device). One wrong command or offset and it is game over. u-boot_mod also ships with several failsafe modes that make it really difficult to brick a router, which is why I recommend using it if you have a supported router. If people wanted to pay for u-boot support for a supported target (or subset of targets), it would make things go a bit quicker. -- Robert Call (Bob) b...@librecmc.org https://librecmc.org
