It seems that our worst fears have now come true. New (stock) TP-Link routers going forward will now have signature checking to prevent third-party firmwares from being flashed. It may still be possible to flash these routers with an SPI flasher, but it is hard to say at this point. Signature checking could just be at the web-ui + updater or could live down in the bootloader (most likely u-boot). Some speculate that this is due to new FCC rules and OEMs are taking the path of least resistance. I'm sure that other OEMs will soon follow shortly.
libreCMC will still continue to support routers running libreCMC, but supporting new routers may become a challenge.
