The vanilla installation didn't go very well. First, the instructions mention
in several places to see the section "Deinstallation of a Previous Version of
LibreOffice" but there is no such section. I used the Ubuntu software manager
to remove all LibreOffice stuff - it was tedious, but it seemed to work. Then I
rand the DEB installation, which seemed to go okay, then the
desktop-integration, which said:

  dpkg: error processing libreoffice3.4-debian-menus_3.4-302_all.deb
(--install):
   conflicting packages - not installing libreoffice-debian-menus
  Errors were encountered while processing:
   libreoffice3.4-debian-menus_3.4-302_all.deb

There are icons for LibreOffice and Draw in my Applications/Office menu, but
not Calc, Writer, etc. When I run LibreOffice, all the applications except
Drawing are grayed out.
