No, that creates a new (empty) writer document and puts me in LibreOffice
writer. I don't particularly care if the effect I seek is --nodefault or
another way, but I'd like to keep a way to achieve it, some way or the other.

I see. Then indeed, it is part of external API, and its behaviour should not
have changed like that.
