Bug #: 43474
Summary: Autosave is needlessly distracting
Classification: Unclassified
Product: LibreOffice
Version: LibO 3.4.4 release
Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: UI
AssignedTo: [email protected]
ReportedBy: [email protected]
When LibreOffice autosaves a document, a progress bar appears at the bottom of
the screen, often for only a fraction of a second before finishing and
disappearing. A progress bar makes sense in the case of an action prompted
directly by the user, and/or an action that stops the program until it
finishes, neither of which is true in the case of autosave. Instead, the
progress bar is horribly distracting, especially if you have ADD like me;
seeing the autosave progress bar flash by at regular intervals can completely
throw me off and derail my work process, making it hard to start again.
I’m filing this as a bug rather than an enhancement request since the progress
bar’s entire presence for autosave is absurd and should be removed. Until it is
removed, it presents both a complete lack of understanding for the creative
process and an accessibility concern for people with attention-deficit
disorders (though really, I can’t imagine anyone likes regular, flashing
progress bars swooping by for no reason). Thanks!
