Using LinuxMint 12 desktop version Mate on an iMac 8.1 I opened LibreOffice, 'english txt' and clicked on the square (right top of screen, 2nd symbol from right) and thereby reduced the size of the window. Did the same with 'dutch txt'. I then had the englsih and the dutch txt next to each other and could read the dutch txt and compare that with the english one. I scrolled down one the txts and everything went and the desktop was visible. Relaunching LibreOffice gave me the recovery screen, I clicked on recovery (or start, I can't remember the exact wording) and went through the same procedure of opening the files, reducing in size, doing something to the txt, and voila, everything went and on opening LibreOffice the recovery window appeared. If I do the same in OpenOffice this problem doesn't come up. Otherwise LibreOffice is fine; what I do find annoying is that after clicking on 'open' and you get a window with a list of files, 'right' clicking on a file doesn't let you either delete that file or rename it as you can in OpenOffice. Hope this helps discover why the open windows leave the screen.
