Out of curiosity, why would you limit yourself to 600px if the screen has plenty of available space (which is something that can be measured automatically) vs the space you might need to show the data (which can also be measured programmatically)? I mean, nobody is running 640x480px screens for office work anymore, especially for spreadsheets work.
