Heh, it's no wonder people are unaware about this. It has so discoverable UI ;) The hardcoded fallback that Heiko knows about is the set of metrically compatible fonts LibreOffice knows about, which allows to het automatic substitution for Arial, TNR, Calibri, etc. - when you don't provide any fallback lists, and you have no manually defined substitutions configured in the program.
