Additionally, if the individual PDF pages are "Inserted" to document page, and so will use the pdfium based filter path, they open reasonably fast with good fidelity to original layout. As they are inserted as bitmaps, the resolution of the filter action can be adjusted by setting environment variable 'PDFIMPORT_RESOLUTION_DPI' but will otherwise get a default appropriate to the display device (so ~96-120 dpi) for non-HiDPI.
