Bug ID: 162050
Summary: [Feature Request] Writer: Fuzzy search for regular,
non-breaking, soft hyphen and space
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 24.2.5.2 release
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: medium
Component: Writer

hyphen and space search
SUMMARY
When you search in the document (Ctrl+F) that has non-breaking hyphens, you can
not search for them in the search dialogue by typing.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create Writer file and type a word one time with a regular and another with
non-breaking hyphen
2a. Search for the word in the search field by typing the word
2b. Search for the word in the search field by copying the word
OBSERVED RESULT
Add. 2a) When the text is typed you can not type non-breaking hyphens. A typed
regular hyphen will not find the non-breaking hyphen
Add. 2b) When the text is copied there is a) no indication that you search for
a non-breaking hyphen and b) now only the non-breaking hyphen is found
EXPECTED RESULT
As this is a very basic search I would expect a fuzzy search where a typed
hyphens finds non-breaking hyphens and vice versa copied non-breaking hyphens
find regular hyphens.
I would also expect a soft hyphen (in a copied word) to be ignored in the
search as it is done when the word is typed (without soft hyphen) (result: Word
with soft hyphen is found even search does not contain one)
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I've seen bug 89573 (Can not type non-breaking space into Find & Replace
dialog; https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89573) but as it
has the Find & Replace dialogue as main subject I'm not sure if this is the
same.
