I'll be happy to help identify what setting (if any) that causes this - but I may need a bit of guidance to do that. Resetting to "factory settings" also seem to have resolved a long time issue of making the UI settings active; it looks like I should have done this a long time ago, as my few tests no longer show "black on black" icons or "very dark gray on black" icons and it's into the high-contrast my OS is in - it defaulted to use the system theme CORRECTLY which was a very positive surprise.
