Description:
I have a document that was initially written in word. I have opened it with
writer and resaved it as an odt. The resolting odt is problematic. When you
open it, writer immedieately shows the first page, but then hangs for about 1
minute. During this time, the interface is completely unresponsive and the
window manager grays the window out saying that the application is not
responding. After about 1 minute everything returns to normal.
One thing that I have noticed and that may be relevant is that when openoffice
first shows the initial page of the document, on the bottom left corner it says
that the document is 78 pages long. However when the hanging phase ends, the
document is 68 pages long. So it looks like libO is spending time and a lot of
energy reformatting the document. Weird enough, if you save the document, this
reformatting is lost. Even in the new copy the document is initially 78 pages
long, you get the freezing, and then the document is 68 pages long.
- probably the conversion from docx to odt created a problematic document
- I do not know how to diagnose the actual issue with the document
- Unfortunately, I cannot share the document
Notwithstanding the above points, I think that:
- if LibO has work to do, the interface should not freeze in that way. A
spinner or a progress meter should probably be shown.
- When re-saving the document, LibO should save a fixed version.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open the document
Actual Results:
The first page is shown, then the interface freezes. After some time it
de-freezes, at this point the reported number of pages is significantly
reduced.
Expected Results:
The interface should not freeze. If LibO has work to do a progress bar or a
spinner should be shown. If the document is problematic, after it has been
processed re-saving it should remove the problem.
