Bug ID: 162432
Summary: Pivot table grouping button does not work if the whole
column is selected, and works unexpectedly if using a
selection range
Product: LibreOffice
Version: Inherited From OOo
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Calc
Assignee: [email protected]

Demonstration video
1. With Calc and a spreadsheet containing a dates column and an integer values
(ex: number of minutes) column, create a pivot table.
2. Set up the dates column into the Pivot table's "Row Fields", and the number
(minutes) into the "Data Fields" area of the pivot table; create the pivot
table.
Then, in the resulting pivot table, either:
* Select the whole first column, and try to press the "Group" toolbar button;
* Select the range of cells in that column, and try to press the "Group"
toolbar button.
In the 1st case, nothing happens and no explanation is given.
In the 2nd case, "Group 1" is greated, instead of showing the grouping method
dialog.
Furthermore, if you try to Undo (Ctrl+Z) the result of the 2nd case, it all
breaks.
It _only_ works if you click only a single cell (not a range, not a column)
before clicking the "Group" button. This is a confusing and somewhat
counterintuitive.
The reproduction steps above (and their results) are demonstrated in the
attached short video.
