Bug ID: 163024
Summary: [Impress] Presentation does not correctly fill
projector screen with certain zoom factors on wayland
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 24.2.5.2 release
Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Impress
Assignee: [email protected]

Hi, I am experiencing a situation where the slide show does not work correctly
with an external projector.
Specifically, with some "zoom factors" the presentation does not fill correctly
the projector screen.
An example: I attached to my laptop a classroom projector. For some reason the
projector screen got configured to use a very large zoom factor (think it was ~
200) while my main laptop screen uses 150. (I think that the large zoom factor
on the external screen was due to previous usage at that large zoom, to let the
students properly read the fonts of some application, but this is not really
relevant).
In this conditions, when I start the slide show, the slides end up covering
only a rectangle in the projector screen, at the top left side, leaving the
rest of the projector screen to show the desktop background. This makes the
slides hardly readable and the presentation unprofessional.
Setting the projector to a 150% zoom (like the laptop screen) worked around the
issue.
The issue is specific to Linux/Wayland.
The issue may be related to bug 136914.
I know that there are issues with scaling when using two screens with the KF6
VCL, but this issue is not specific to the KF6 VCL, but also happens with the
GTK3 one.
Notes:
- Cannot test with the GTK4 VCL due to a crash that has just been fixed, but
where the fixed has not yet been shipped in a release;
- Cannot test with the "fresh" LibO (24.08.x), because of another bug that has
just yet been fixed, but for which the fix is again not yet shipped in a
release.
I will make these tests shortly, as soon a a version of LibO with the two fixes
above reaches me.
Also note that this issue may not be frequent (both for being specific to
linux/wayland and for requiring specific mixes of zoom factors among the PC and
the presentation screen), but for those experiencing it is a real deal breaker.
Having a software meant to do presentation not able to properly use the
presentation screen is a problem. The fact that there is a workaround but that
it is not really obvious or discoverable does not help.
