I don't speak OOXML'ese, but assuming the w:rPr tag is only supposed to apply
within its enclosing w:r, then indeed we should see 

e,MAQAF,space,=,space,5

in Word and in LibreOffice. But Mike says, on IRC, that if he clears formatting
in MS Word, the placement changes. So, weird.
