Well, if we look at OOXML, I believe Word has mostly abandonded the trinity;
although it remains in the UI IIANM. So, it's not quite an interoperability
issue. Again, correct me if I'm wrong. Although TBH this discussion is out of
scope by now.

Yeah, we should really get rid of all of that stuff in ODF 1.5 or 2 or
something :-) ...  in favor of properties and entities with an associated group
of languages (defaulting to applying to all languages when nothing is
specified)
