Description:
I have a column with many (thousands or more) numbers, formated as numbers,
which I want to convert to format text.
There may or may not be fields in the column with data already formated as
text.
Using copy + paste special leaves all the numbers functioning as numbers, even
though their format says text.
This means they are sorted as numbers instead of text.
The idea of converting them to text format is to allow them to be treated as
text in all circumstances, & not numbers, even when sorting.
As far as first version affected, it seemed to work in the past, but I may have
had to edit each field. With hundreds of items, that is no longer practical.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Have a column with many (maybe thousands) numbers formated as numbers, to be
converted to text.
They may be intermixed with text, and editing a few numbers at a time may turn
them into text
2. Use copy + special paste (as text) to convert all items not already formated
as text to text format.
This copy/paste may be in place or not, same results.
3. The numbers converted to text show as text format but continue to behave
like numbers, particularly when sorted.
Actual Results:
Numbers 'converted' to text still act like numbers
Expected Results:
All numbers are converted to text and act in every respect like text.
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: Yes
Additional Info:
Other software used in past would successfully convert numbers formated as
numbers to text format.
It seems to me that it worked successfully with Libreoffice in the past, but I
may be mistaken.
It makes no sense to tag numbers as text but have them still act as numbers not
text.
An easy test would be to keep the alignment at default and/or sort with some
text in the same column.
Note to reproduce, need to enter numbers as numbers before reformating as text.
Note that some Libreoffice documentation confirms this bug, saying that only
newly entered numbers will behave like text when the field format is changed to
text.
As well as being illogical, this is totally impractical for large numbers of
already entered numbers.
