Bug ID: 164375
Summary: Selected/highlighted text in Writer not highlighted
when switching to another LO window
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 24.8.3.2 release
Hardware: All
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: medium
Component: Writer
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
Situation: working with an email from Outlook and I need to copy IDs and change
their related info in a sheet and web app. A long time ago MS had the brililant
idea to un-highlight text you selected in any Office app when it becomes the
background app (because keeping it highlighted might confuse people, and losing
track of what you had selected is obviously not confusing /s)
This was one of the many, many reasons I use Calc and Writer over Excel and
Word. (Unfortunately there is no alternative for Outlook.)
However, I discovered that LO has a similar “feature”: when highlighting text
in Writer and switching to a different LO app, the highlighted text is not
highlighted anymore (until you switch back). This only happens when switching
to an LO app, so this often isn’t a problem, but when working in Writer and
Calc it is. (Luckily the easy solution was to just use notepad.)
Tested on 2 computers on a very old version (7.something) and 24.8.3.2
To be clear: when switching from Writer to a non-LO app the text is still
highlighted. But it also doesn't change appearance, whereas e.g. Firefox when
it's the foreground window the selected text is white-on-blue, vs. white on
grey in a background window. For writer the text is black-on-blue in both
states. (I still prefer this over no highlighting when it's the background
window.)
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Select text in Writer, selected text is black-on-blue
2. Switch to any LO app
Actual Results:
3. Text isn't highlighted anymore
Expected Results:
3. Text is still highlighted (like it is when switching to a non-LO app)
Or: 3b. Text is highlighted in a different color (e.g. black-on-grey)
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: Yes

Uhm, there is no other information, why is this field required?
