As an example: You type aaaXXXXXXXXXXXccc, after step 3 aaaXXXXXXXXXXX will not be seen (aaa lays to the left of the selection rectangle, and XXXXXXXXXXX is "covered" by the selection rectangle); and ccc will remain visible.
