I think this problem also extends to a few Greek letter characters in Math
object which now has excessive spacing in the the front OR in the rear of the
character compared to an earlier version in the middle of 2024.

So far, I found %psi and %lambda to be affected.

Insert the following and compare:
%psi_1 newLine
%phi_1 newLine
%lambda(x) newLine
%phi(x)

We see unnecessary and yet uncontrollable spacing of in front of %psi, which
makes it look repulsive. The %lambda one is not as obvious on its own but when
you pair it up with something like %lambda(x) the extra rear spacing looks
hideous. %phi, whose character is wider than %lambda starts the next character
at the same position!

I completely agree with OP that the default math object should not have any
space at all between the border and formula, it should resemble a normal
alphanumeric letter being typed just like in MS Word formulas, after which you
can add your own spaces as required.
