            Bug ID: 164790
Summary: Enhancement Request - Version-Stamp AppImage Files
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: unspecified
          Hardware: All
                OS: Linux (All)
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: medium
         Component: LibreOffice
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

Description:
I periodically get a notification that a new version of LibreOffice is
available - as I did today. I'm running AppImage 24.2.7.2 at the moment, but
got the notification because 24.8.4 has now been released. But when I go to
download the "AppImage" file, there is no version information in the download
file - you literally name the file "LibreOffice-still.standard-x86_64.AppImage"
and the only way I can tell if you have actually posted a new version of the
AppImage is to download from the link and then compare the new file with my
existing one.

Which is insane.

Can you PLEASE change the naming convention of your AppImage files to be
something like:-

LibreOffice-still.standard-x86_64.24.8.4.AppImage

So that it is easily possible to determine when the AppImage link is updated
with the new binary?

I'm using a metered connection and I just wasted @ 340Mb of my monthly
allowance to download a version I'm already running.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Go to the link at "LibreOffice as AppImage" from the download page
2.Note that the AppImage page provides NO CLUE as to which SINGLE VERSION is
offered for download
3. Select the desired version from one of the six options
4. Download the file
5. Note that the file naming convention offers NO CLUE as to which version has
just been downloaded

Actual Results:
The download service for Linux AppImage binaries provides no mechanism to
determine what version is offered and makes no attempt to name the downloaded
AppImage file with version information - which is a widespread industry
practice.

Expected Results:
I should be able to see - on the actual download page - the version of the
AppImage I am being offered. I should be able to see - based on the name of the
file I download - what version I have actually downloaded. I should NOT need to
launch the program to interrogate a running binary to figure out what version I
have...

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
This should not require any code changes, this should literally be nothing more
complex than renaming the AppImage file that is being offered for download.

I rather hope this isn't "too much" to ask - version-named files is the
convention for almost all other FOSS projects... it really isn't clear why
LibreOffice are unwilling to adopt that convention.
