            Bug ID: 165286
Summary: Clone Formatting / Copy formatting to a Style / Create
                    Style from this formatting
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: 25.2.0.0 alpha0+
          Hardware: All
                OS: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: enhancement
          Priority: medium
         Component: Writer
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

hi,

This could be a big step in the evolution of WRITER's functionalities.

Imagine working on a text that has been written some time ago, extensively
using direct formatting.

The function: ~ "make a style from this formatting" can revolutionize your
workflow. Cause once you create 'that style'... and from then on you'll only
have to clear direct formatting (at that type of element in the text, be it a
quotation or an indented block...) and apply that style you created...

This is not only useful when working with older text,
but also when a sketchy text becomes your favorite and you want to turn it into
a well formatted text. I mean, it can be useful for basically anybody...

The only difficulty is perhaps having to offer the options to choose from:

character formatting
or
paragraph formatting...

But this could be eliminated if the creation of a style happens
just "on the fly"...
I mean, you right click on a word and choose:
"create a style from this"...

and then only a small "window" (dialogue) pops up, asking you to choose
paragraph or character
and to give it a style name...

Then it will appear among styles...

Oh, I almost forgot: this would be equally useful in Calc!
