OK so OP is on macOS, and aside from their hope to add theme in some Green color scheme, which remains the subject of this issue, they have a macOS specific issue with the new Appearance theme framework. Likely experiencing a dupe of the macOS Dark mode specific bug 165266 where default Automatic theme is being munged after selection of Light|Dark rather than System.
