Bug ID: 165806
Summary: Feature request: Expose UI scaling in LibO options
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 25.2.1.2 release
Hardware: All
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: medium
Component: UI
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
LibO has long supported DPI scaling, which automatically adjusts based on the
desktop environment or operating system settings. However, the setting isn't
always the most accurate and there's no user-visible configuration to adapt the
interface scale.
At least on Linux distros, scaling, especially fractional scaling, is a hassle.
Therefore, users in various communities have reported "issues". The primary
solution is to add an argument like SAL_FORCEDPI=100 to libreoffice --writer or
modify it with flatpak override if using an immutable distro, which is less
intuitive for average users.
It would be ideal to see the scaling options in the appearance section or at
least in the "advanced/open expert configuration" section. I don't know if LibO
only has a global configuration or allows you to scale parts of the interface.
Other applications allow you to scale the interface and fonts separately, or
even sections of the interface (Jasp Stats allows you to scale its Ribbon
interface independently of the rest).
In my particular case I have to lower the LibO scaling to 100% because using
the global configuration of 125% the interface looks fine, but some windows
dialog look so big that they go out of what is visible on the screen, such as
options, which is very frustrating.
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Select a global scaling greater than the default, in my case 125%.
2.Open Libre Office
3.Open the options windows dialog
Actual Results:
The LibreOffice Options window is larger than the screen. The action buttons or
title bar are not visible.
Expected Results:
The Options window and other windows within LibreOffice now scale correctly to
global scale.
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: Yes
