This request is similar to bug 91566 and bug 98410. I set it as duplicate to
bug 98410. In addition, more remarks on the tab bar are in bug 156328.

Some tips for current state of LibreOffice:

If you have more tabs than can be shown in the tab bar in the footer, the
navigation arrows in the footer are active. When you right-click such control,
you see a list of all sheets.

Instead of navigating to a specific sheet using the tabs in the footer, you can
use the Navigator. It gives you a more compact access to a specific sheet.

If you currently work on a specific set of sheets, you can temporarily hide the
currently not used sheets, to get a shorter line of tabs.

If you currently toggle between two sheets, you can show the document in a
second window (menu Window) and so have a view on one sheet in the first window
and on the other sheet in the second window.
