As a person who uses Windows often (desktop computers at work), and who has
appreciated many Windows UI choices over the years,  I must say I am quite
appalled by some of the UI element changes recently, and specifically by the
tree view in the example. One has to _image_ the tree - and also guage
horizontal positions, since lines can't be followed.

So, regardless of Stuart's point - even if this widget style is somehow
implemented, please do not make it the only alternative, or the default,
because it is just so bad! :-(

Isn't that also a problem with Windows itself? ... e.g. Control Panel vs
Settings; and also open up the Group Policy Editor beside them. Right?
