I could change the page to portrait or landscape and no problem with columns. But if I change to have 2 columns on a page I will have 4, because, the section have 2 columns, and the page have 2 columns. You can try this in LibreOffice: right click somewhere between text and Edit section - in the bottom you have Remove. Now all the text is in page, not in a section.
