            Bug ID: 166690
Summary: Save for a document opened in LO Writer should default
to from where it was loaded
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: 25.8.0.0 alpha0+
          Hardware: All
                OS: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: medium
         Component: Writer
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

When you are working on different versions or on documents with similar
content, i.e. work with several documents or instances of LO Writer
simultaneously, you might easily loose the oversight about which document came
from which file on which path.

Up to version 7, one could go to Save as and see to which directory the storing
dialog defaults to.

At least in
Version: 25.8.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 4957d832c76598e78a57324dad5b4de7345a33e2
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 6.8; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: sv-SE (de_DE.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded
this is no longer the case (but the bug might have leaked in earlier, it does
not happen day for day that I struggle with not knowing which of several open
documents came from which directory).

In version 25.8 Save as defaults to the directory into which LO Writer has
saved the last document, not the directory from where the current document was
loaded or where the current document has been stored most recently in this
session.

This is a loss of a useful functionality which should be reverted to the old
state, where each document kept track from where it was loaded into LO Writer
and which was updated for the session when one decided to store it in some
other directory.

To reproduce:
1. Open a recent document into LO Writer, which has been saved recently. If in
doubt: just store it again..
2. Open some quite old document from another directory.
3. use File>Save as to save the second document
Result: LO Writer suggests to store document 2 into the directory of document
1.
Expected result: suggest do save in the directory of document 2, from which it
originated.

Note: The current behavior may be more desirable for someone who always works
from an inbox (directory) to an outbox (another separate directory). However, I
think this is a very specialized working environment that does not justify
losing the ability to quickly find out where a document was loaded from.
Perhaps this could be set in a configuration: “Always save as by Default to”
with the selection options "Current directory/Directory of last save
operation/This directory: ..." with the option of specifying a fixed storage
directory for the last selection as outbox.
