Bug ID: 166695
Summary: UI: Non-ASCII characters in Notes are not displayed in
the Presenter Console (and neither in some other UI
elements)
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 24.8.5.2 release
Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: macOS (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Impress
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
All non-ASCII characters are displayed as empty rectangles in the "Notes"
section in the "Presenter Console" (see "LO3….jpg").
The presentation is old, but changed from time to time. The problem appeared
after an LibreOffice update this year and since then, all presentations are
affected. I add more technical information below.
In this presentation (see "Lektion….odp"), the used font is not installed any
more, but MacOS provides a replacement font (see "LO1….jpg" on the left side).
Using other fonts for the Notes' text does not help. Neither when formatting
the Notes' text directly, nor when changing the font in the Style "Notes".
It does not matter, if editing the Notes using "View"→"Views Tab Bar"→"Notes",
or the new "View"→"Notes Pane".
Some more errors, maybe related, are:
The (old) Font name is not displayed in the font selector (see "LO1….jpg").
However, the font name is selectable with the mouse, can be copied, and pasted
in a different programm (see "LO2….jpg").
The "Animation" view is not diplaying the non-ASCII characters, which are
displayed on the Slide itself (see "LO4….jpg").
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open the attached presentation on an intel-x86 based Mac.
2. Start the Slide Show with a Presenter Console.
3. Open the Notes view in the Presenter Console.
Actual Results:
All non-ASCII characters are displayed as empty rectangles. All other character
are displayed normally.
Expected Results:
All characters are displayed.
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: Yes

The errors do NOT appear on an Apple Sillicon Mac!
The errors do NOT appear in other software on that intel-x86 Mac.
Deleting LibreOffice and all settings in "~/Library/…" does not help.
Reinstalling MacOS does not help.
