            Bug ID: 166923
           Summary: An Impress Viewer
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: unspecified
          Hardware: All
                OS: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: enhancement
          Priority: medium
         Component: Impress
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

[The Document Foundation Wiki
states](https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Faq/Impress/021) that "The policy
of LibreOffice is not to develop this type of viewer for the time being.".

However, It's important to document the use-cases and rationale for having an
Impress Viewer on the platforms supported by LibreOffice, on the hope that this
policy would be reconsidered:

* It is often impossible to install the full LibreOffice suite on devices where
the slideshow is to be viewed. Obvious solution of the presenter using their
own laptop is also sometimes not possible, as in the case of schools, where
pupils are expected to present, but bringing a laptop would be either
complicated given the young age of the pupil, or not approved by the school.

* The given solutions include exporting to PDF, HTML, Flash, or PPT. Exporting
to any of these formats doesn't preserve the transitions, which for many
typical users constitute an integral part of doing a computer-based
presentation. "Creating intermediate slides" to the effects of the transitions
is either too labor intensive, or practically impossible, or simply beyond the
capabilities of typical users.

* A portable, self-contained viewer which could be run simply by copying or
from a USB would greatly increase the utility of Impress's presentations.
