Bug ID: 167116
Summary: Inserting image destroys document formatting and
removes text
Product: LibreOffice
Version: unspecified
Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: medium
Component: Writer
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
I just updated to version 25.2.4.3. I have a 20 page document that has text
and images. Now when I insert an image, it destroys the document formatting
and removes or hides text. The image is inserted in the place where it belongs
and the flow around the image is the default for a libreoffice document. I
scale the images after inserting them and they are larger then the finished
layout but smaller than the page margins.
The only way to recover the text is to back all the way out of image insertion
using CTRL-Z, to the place just before the image was inserted. This has never
happened in any prior version of Libreoffice. All of the other images placed
in the prior version were all done properly.
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Opened existing document from prior Libreoffice version.
2.Went to document place where last edited.
3.Inserted Image
Actual Results:
Went to resume prior document editing place in document (Opened Recent
Documents). Went to place in document in document where image should be placed.
Clicked Insert Image from toolbar, opened image in PNG format. Image is
inserted and text prior to image disappears. Scale image, and reposition; but
the text is gone. The only way to recover the text is to CTRL-Z until the
image is removed, before image placement.
Expected Results:
The image is placed, rescaled, and attempt to reposition over the text that
should be above it. That text is gone and document format is changed. Moving
image does not uncover missing text.
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: Yes
Additional Info:
Placed the image under the text, allowed the image to be rescaled under the
text, change the text flow to above and below the image.
Version: 25.2.4.3 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 33e196637044ead23f5c3226cde09b47731f7e27
CPU threads: 12; OS: Windows 11 X86_64 (10.0 build 26100); UI render:
Skia/Raster; VCL: win
Locale: en-US (en_US); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded
After going into safe mode:
Going into safe mode identified that side-by-side page display and
magnification to over 150% had been activated. Safe mode displayed the pages
at 50% magnification, showing the side by side mode was on. I turned off side
by side mode in safe mode, and the formatting returned to normal. I inserted
the image properly in safe mode and positioned the image and text flow
properly. I saved the document and upon returning to the normal mode for
Libreoffice, the formatting issues, image placement, and text flow were all
displayed and working properly. The version number of the prior update was
three releases prior to the current release number, which was the release this
document was created under. I don't know if this is corruption in the user
profile, and I am submitting this since it did work after the safe mode was
started and edited in safe mode.
