Special characters are needed when writing linguistic texts in LibreOffice
Writer. It is possible to add special characters (for example: Ā, ō, ū, ḥ, ḫ,
ḍ...) one by one from the SPECIAL CHARACTERS section of the Insert menu. Adding
them from this menu every time causes loss of time. In Microsoft Word,
shortcuts can be assigned to these characters with various key combinations.
For example, Alt+A can be assigned to write "ā", Alt+Shift+A can be assigned to
write "Ā". This feature would be very useful if it was in LibreOffice Writer.
