Bug ID: 167357
Summary: EDITING: Impress freezes on slides including embedded
video on a machine with NVidia graphics.
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 25.2.4.3 release
Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Impress
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
I am working with a .pptx file that has a short .mp4 video embedded in one of
the slides. On one of my machines with an AMD TR 7980X CPU and an NVidia
GeForce RTX 5080 GPU, running fully patched Fedora 42, Impress always freezes
when I am trying to open that slide. This happens both in editing mode and in
the presentation mode. Impress stops responding almost immediately, and soon
enough I get a pop-up dialog asking to wait or force-quit Impress. Waiting does
not help, neither does clicking on other slides in the presentation.
The bug may be related to #153469, but I believe it is a different issue in my
case for the following reasons:
1. The bug manifests in both Wayland and X11 sessions
2. The bug manifests with 25.2.4.3 version as an .rpm release from Fedora, as
well as same version of flatpak from Flathub
3. Running the same version of LibreOffice on the same version of Fedora in a
VMWare virtual machine on the same computer *does not* produce a freeze. The
video plays normally, and I can edit the presentation.
4. Running the same version of LibreOffice on the same version of Fedora on a
Tiger Lake laptop (ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 9) *does not* produce a freeze.
Other troubleshooting I tried: (1) Reinstalling GStreamer packages, (2)
Reinstalling LibreOffice, (3) Reinstalling each individual LibreOffice
application, (4) Switching from a native .rpm package to flatpak, (5) Resetting
the LibreOffice user profile.
The diagnostics above makes me believe that the issue is likely specific to the
combination of LibreOffice and NVidia driver.
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open a .pptx file with an embedded video
2. Navigate to the slide either in editing or in presentation mode
3. Impress will freeze
Actual Results:
Impress freezes and needs to be subjected to force quit.
Expected Results:
Video playing in presentation mode. Editing uninterrupted in editing mode.
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: Yes
