                    dependent
           Product: LibreOffice

          Hardware: All
                OS: All

          Severity: enhancement

Hello!

This is an enhancement request which would benefit all users who use LO writer
in more than one language: make the Auto Correct quote replacement option
language dependent.

Rationale: Many languages use different characters for quotes. English uses "
as both the opening quote and the closing quote to write "quoted text". German,
Czech, etc. use „quoted text“. Danish uses “quoted text” and other languages
use other marks. LibreOffice makes typing these characters easy by optionally
replacing the English style quote (") with a selected character depending on
whether it's an opening quote or a closing quote. So far so good. But you can
only set the replacement quotes globally for all languages. So If you write in
English, you have to manually switch quote replacement off. When you write in
Czech, you have to switch it on. And if you also wrote in Danish, you'd have to
manually change the replacement characters to the right ones for that language.

It would be far more convenient if the quote replacement setting was language
dependent, because it is language dependent in reality.

NOTE: There is an 15-year-old bug report for this that was closed 9 years ago
by someone who claimed it worked. In reality, it doesn't and never has and the
person who closed it probably didn't understand the issue:
