For the original bug case there are loads of ways to represent this in LO natively: a) Push the yellow box behind the text b) Set the highlight colour of the text are just the two obvious ones. How to transform the current input into either of those sensibly is a fun question; but it would only work with this case, but then does anything else use multiplicative blends? An easy hack which would kind of work for this case would be to mark all things with a multiplicative blend as partially transparent - then at least you could read the text that's hidden.
