Bug ID: 167795
Summary: Search headings using keyboard shortcut
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 25.2.4.3 release
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Writer
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
Hi,
In long Writer docs, fastest way to navigate IMO is to search for headings.
This is prohibitively difficult using keyboard:
1. ctrl-F5
2. alt-4
3. tab-tab-tab-tab-tab
4. <type keyword>
Everyone (who can) will use the mouse instead. In case you're wondering, #2
shifts focus to the Sidebar Deck, but to the drop-down list (which I leave
Headings as the selected list item), so have to tab x5 to shift focus to the
headings tree.
Once there, I really like how slick navigating to a heading is. Simply type
first few chars and press enter. Shifting focus to the tree in the Sidebar Deck
is the problem.
I'm aware I cant alt-9 and type, but this searches the whole doc, including
references to the keyword outside of the heading. Yields too many low-value
results to wade through. 99% of the time, the content I'm looking for is within
the heading containing the keyword.
Thanks for considering this enhancement.
Steps to Reproduce:
Try to quickly search among headings (using the keyboard).
Actual Results:
Takes seven keystrokes.
Expected Results:
Takes one or two keystrokes.
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: No
Additional Info:
Ideally a single keystroke will open the Sidebar Deck with tree as focus, but
I'd also be happy with ctrl-F5 to open the Sidebar Deck, then a single further
keystroke to move focus to the tree. Alt-4, tab-tab-tab-tab-tab is a
deal-breaker.
