Bug ID: 168791
Summary: Allow auto-format actions to be undone with "undo"
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 25.2.5.2 release
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: medium
Component: Calc
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
Spreadsheet tools attempting to autoformat data and thereby automatically
altering cell contents from the character string inputted by the user can be a
serious nuisance and workflow interruption. This enhancement request
specifically addresses the workflow pattern rather than the ultimate capability
of the software, but should be regarded seriously as menu-hunting and settings
changing hamper the practical usability of the software and the emotional state
of the user.
The requested feature that when Calc performs an automatic formatting action of
a data input, that the "Undo" feature (Ctrl+Z) reverts the autoformatting and
returns the cell contents to the unaltered input string. When a keyboard input
for a cell contents is made, it should not require opening the context menu and
then a popup menu and then changing a popup menu option in order to stop the
visually presented cell contents string from changing away from the user input
string. A user should be able to immediately revert the action with ctrl+z.If
this requires that the Ctrl+Z revert the cell to specifically a "text" format
option, then it should happen in order to allow the software to comply with the
user intent to see the exact string they enter in the cell they entered it in.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Enter data into a cell such as a ratio like 01:35
2. Upon pressing enter, observe the displayed cell contents to be reformatted
into a date
3. Shortcut Ctrl+Z to undo the date autoformat
Actual Results:
Ctrl+Z undoes the user's data input
Expected Results:
Revert the displayed cell contents string to the user inputted string
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: Yes
Additional Info:
If this requires that the Ctrl+Z revert format option automatically assign the
cell a "text" format option, then this should happen in order to allow the
software to comply with the user intent to see the exact string they enter in
the cell they entered it in.
