After finding *HOW* to use it (it took me a while to find it in the Navigator - thought it would be with the Tools -> Footnote/Endnote settings...: could it *also* go there?), it seemed to work perfectly. HOWEVER! When you change (e.g.) foot -> end, the *STYLE* does not change. Writer still thinks the endnotes are footnotes, and there's no easy way I can see to convince it otherwise. So, you need to adjust the FOOTNOTE style in order to tweak the way your ENDNOTES look. This should probably be a "new bug"; I searched, but couldn't find that this precise issue had already been reported.
