Bug ID: 169266
Summary: External links don't update in calc and performance is
terrible on M1 Macbook (FILEOPEN)
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 25.8.2.2 release
Hardware: ARM
OS: macOS (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Calc
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
Hi, so I'm using an M1 macbook pro on iOS 26, and the problem is that the
performance in LibreOffice is terrible with one specific spreadsheet. It's an
.ods file with about 10 sheets with a lot of data and formulas. Some sheets
have a thousand rows, some have hundreds, and pretty much all of them have a
lot of formulas.
I also use 4 external links (all 4 are from a google sheets spreadsheet using
the "Publish to Web" feature on google sheets), and those links, in total come
to about 6700 cells across the 4 links. The links are set to update every 5
minutes (300 seconds).
But the file itself is not that large, it has a size of 20mb
So my problem is twofold:
1. The performance on this specific file is terrible. Opening up the file takes
about 5 minutes, saving it takes a couple of minutes too, even if I only
changed 1 value, sometimes it randomly just lags and libreoffice becomes
completely unresponsive, forcing me to wait several minutes or kill it via
MacOS' activity manager.
In the options, under LibreOffice > View, I tried activating "Use hardware
acceleration", but it's greyed out. And the options "Use anti-aliasing" and
"Use Skia for all rendering" are checked by default. "Force Skia software
rendering" is not checked. OpenCL is also not unchecked.
Other files are not affected by this problem, they open up fast.
2. The links are not updating anymore. In the beginning they updated without
any issues, but now they don't update anymore. When I open up the file there's
a yellow banner at the top asking me if I want to allow the update, and when I
click on "allow" it just loads indefinitely. When I try to edit the external
links, change the automatic update interval, etc. I just get the following
error:
> Error loading document [Google Sheets URL]
>
> Error reading data from the Internet.
> Server error message:
> OPTIONS
> =>
> HTTP/1.1 400 Bad Request.
However, when I check the availability of that spreadsheet via my terminal
(curl -I [url]), I get HTTP 200. So it seems like the problem is coming from
LibreOffice itself.
I already tried reinstalling LibreOffice, but the issue persists.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open the file (I can't attach it because it contains sensitive information)
2. Click on "update external links"
3.
Actual Results:
It loads indefinitely and the links don't get updated.
Expected Results:
The links should get updated.
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: Yes
