Bug ID: 169452
Summary: Setting to prevent automatically being able to type in
cells
Product: LibreOffice
Version: unspecified
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: medium
Component: Calc
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
Suggesting to add a setting/mode that prevents typing from automatically
editing a cell. Editing cells would require shortcut to activate cell editing
(ENTER key or "Rename" action shortcut).
Actual Results:
Currently if you start typing it automatically applies the text into the
current cell.
Expected Results:
Suggesting to add a setting/mode that prevents this from happening and only
allows edit/typing in current cell, when ENTER key and or "Rename" action
shortcut set to different keyboard key.
This could then allow users to assign shortcuts to single letters/number keys
and even Shift+letters/number keys because they are no longer being used
outside of cell edit mode.
Obviously when cell edit mode is activated then letters/numbers/etc. would
perform as expected, allowing to be typed inside cell.
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: No
Additional Info:
I cannot say that I would use this all the time but would be something
interested in being able to try. Not sure if any other users would find this
useful to be added?
This could also prevent cells from accidently being edited/typed over if
accidently hit keys on keyboard, replacing cells data with that key, which does
happen on occassion.
