The growth is indeed very slight, so hard to notice and tedious to test. In the end, I settled on launching it 4-5 times after checking the location of the right edge when the window is placed to the left side of the screen. I could not bibisect this, though. It is seen at least in 7.5. Desktop is KDE. Tested with Kate editor and it doesn't seem to grow like this.
