I tested with this file with the procedure Ctrl+A, Ctrl+M (and flipping between
undo and Ctrl+M). The font used is Arial btw.

The oldest result is that the dotted circle placeholder glyphs for anusvara
symbols ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anusvara ) are displayed and removing
direct formatting does not make the circles go away. In 4.2 with commit
6db39dbd7378351f6476f6db25eb7110c9cfb291 this changed and the circles started
disappearing after removing direct formatting:
fdo#52028: sw: let text formatting ignore RSID in automatic styles

Then in 24.8 there were two changes to how the text is displayed upon opening,
without any removal of formatting. With commit
30d376fb7ded4c96c85ad1112a0e44b5929657c9 the circles became overlapped with the
rest of the text:
tdf#61444 Correct Writer text layout across formatting changes

With commit ab0a4543cab77ae0c7c0a79feb8aebab71163dd7 some of the circles turned
into boxes and some disappeared:
tdf#124116 Correct Writer text shaping across formatting changes

Let's ask Jonathan, if he has ideas.
