Then you expect users being able >to extend the list, I fail to understand the use case. Yes but only when the developer chooses to allow it, by not choosing "Stop". Please re-read the use case I provided in Comment 28. That's not made up. It's real. It was designed to allow items and vendors not in the predefined lists since there will be exceptions, which is perfectly fine. The users know those two fields can accept values not in the list. They don't need to be 'warned' about it every time it happens. It's an unnecessary constraint. If users needed to be warned, we would select the "Show error message when invalid entries are entered" checkbox. Currently, there are: 16 unique Categories 52 unique Subcategories 92 unique Items 33 unique Vendors The Items and Vendors lists exist to help ensure consistency when choosing common/repeated items and vendors. As I said above, if a new category or subcategory needs to be added, there needs to be a use case. They are locked down by use of the Stop Action, and there is no error message needed or shown. However, Items needed can be unique/one-offs and new or even existing items may need to be purchased from a unique/one-time Vendor. The users know this is how it works, and no error message is wanted or needed. These are allowed by use of the Information setting. If we had to add all of the one-offs to the lists, they will quickly become overloaded with items and vendors which will never be needed again, clogging the list. The "Show error message when invalid entries are entered" checkbox and the Action selection are two completely independent settings. One is, 'What is the application going to do?' The other is 'What, if anything, do you need to communicate to the user?'. They should work completely independent of each other. One should not influence the other. As I said in Comment 29, there are are applications (such as the old Lotus Notes) which allow this exact functionality via a more obvious setting choice, such as allowing the developer to choose a "Allow values not in list" setting when defining the selection interface. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
