--- Comment #11 from Eyal Rozenberg <[email protected]> ---
(In reply to Heiko Tietze from comment #10)

I'll add that even though I accepted the WF resolution, I did say that if we
got this request from multiple people, we should possibly reconsider.

I can see the appeal of not having to memorize different mnemonics for
LibreOffice, and being able type in Markdown mnemonics and have them converted
to styles and formatting. I don't buy the argument of a strict separation
between markup-mode and rendered-mode - as we (LO) break that with
autocomplete, already.

However - LO's focus is not being a Markdown editor. And it is pretty easy to
open such an editor, e.g. with a preview; type up something you like; then
copy-and-paste it with Markdown rendering. So you are really asking for a
convenience feature which is somewhat redundant with other apps. Unless this is
something many users expect or want, it doesn't seem reasonable to have this
"feature creep".

Indeed. Another avenue to consider is whether or not this can be achieved via
extension (I'm not sure); and again, you could ask for a customizable (sub)set
of autocorrect rules, plus the feature of autocorrecting based on start-and-end
markers rather than just start markers. Those two together would make it
possible to get what you want.
