Implementing this semantic change will close a hole in our support for start/end alignment, make Writer's behavior consistent with Edit Engine, fix this OOXML import problem, make it easier to reuse list styles for mixed LTR/RTL documents, and it will make bug 153953 trivial. I'm going to move forward with this change.
