And that means that the fact that it works is kind of a fluke, because we
didn't really check that on one of the major supported platforms.

We did not reach that conclusion. There is definitely a good use case for
selecting multiple objects in Writer - given that it is possible to create
multiple objects which form an ensemble, a diagram, of some sort - you would
want to be able to move them together or align them, just like in Impress or
Draw. It's true that we use drawing facilities a lot less in Writer - but they
are supported and used.

Only as a temporary measure, until they are implemented consistently and with
proper consideration to cross-page behavior.  Now, we did not have agreement on
whether multi-selection should be re-enabled in the future, but we also did not
agree on blocking it permanently.
