For the record, a much more invasive solution (compared to just making the
charts' properties/wizard dialog non-modal) can be seen in Apple Numbers'
contextual sidebar approach here:

…but short of redesigning the whole workflow here, it's much easier to make the
dialog non-modal to begin with.
