Bug ID: 170684
Summary: Navigator UI has distracting flashing icons that are
not necessary
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 25.8.4.2 release
Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Writer
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
I am using the navigator feature on Writer solely to maintain an outline using
headers for a large document. I want the navigator to be visible at all times.
However, whenever I type anything in the document, two icons begin flashing, a
paper clip icon and a green checkmark icon. The check mark box actually causes
all other buttons to move as it comes in and out of view. If I hover over the
paper clip icon, the entire UI vibrates rapidly. Neither button seems to be
clickable, and I don't know what they are actually there for. I have gathered
that they serve to tell me about automatic updates to the navigator based on
changes made in my document, but I do not need any visual indicator of this,
and certainly do not want constant movement or flashing on my screen while I am
trying to type. It is extremely distracting. That being said, I do not want to
turn updates off. I want to minimize the amount of interaction I have to do
with the navigator: I just want it on screen, stable, showing my document
outline headers, available to click when I want them. Whatever these icons are
for, it seems completely unnecessary that they should ever move, flash,
disappear, or do anything other than just sit there being buttons. Whether it's
a bug or a UI design issue, I hope it can be taken care of. Thanks.
