The dropdown list is too long.

If one has more than a few font families the drop down list of fonts becomes
long and clunky. If one has a lot of font families, the list becomes near
useless. I have hundreds of font families and many thousands of individual
fonts. Scrolling down one long list that combines font family and individual
weight is beyond maddening. There is a solution, to have one dropdown for font
family, and a second dropdown for weights and italics. See image posted by
GwenDragon https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=44709 for an
example of a better interface for selecting fonts.

Getting stuck at the top of the list

Compounding the issue of a too long list of fonts is the fact that whatever
font I select gets transported to the top of the list so that if I decide
FontALight is too heavy, and I want FontAExtraLight, I have to scroll down the
entire list again to get to the next door neighbor of my original selection.

Many missing weights and italics

But I may not actually be able to get the weight and style I want since once I
scroll down to "FontA", too frequently that weight is entirely missing, as are
most or all of the italics. In the vast majority of my fonts the italics are
simply missing from the list. And in many, one or more weights in the
non-italic faces are missing.

Clicking on the slider yields too large jumps down the list.

I'd advocate for the slider on a long dropbox list to drop or rise by only one
"screen full" if one clicks on the scroll bar below or above the slider.
Currently it jumps to some random point way up or down the list. That jump
makes clicking in the scroll bar a waste of time, essentially wasting a good
interface tool.
