            Bug ID: 170731
Summary: regression: default action for pasting selected
objects has changed so that they are unselected after
                    paste
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: 26.2.0.3 release
          Hardware: All
                OS: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: medium
         Component: Writer
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

this is a request for reversal of bug 167833 solution, or provision of a more
accesible toggle to restore the previous behaviour.

Issue:
If you select a group of lines or shapes or text boxes and copy and paste
them, since v 26.2.0.3 the pasted objects become unselected. This means you
have to move each one individually. This greatly slows down the workflow when
selecting more than one object, and when copy/pasting within the same document.

Because the objects are page or paragraph positioned, they are pasted in the
same position as the copied objects, making it impossible to manually group
select the pasted items (in order to move them) without selecting the copied
items as well.

Current work-around:
to revert the setting to what it was before, you currently have to
1. Open Advanced Settings: Go to Tools > Options > LibreOffice > Advanced.
2. Click the Open Expert Configuration button.
3. Search for the Key: Search for SelectPasted
4. Toggle the Value: Double-click the line to change the value from False to
True.
5. Save: Click OK and restart Writer if necessary.

It is hardly user friendly to change such an often used feature and not provide
a more accessible toggle to restore the previous behaviour. I can only assume
the requesters for bug 167833 never copy-pasted in the same document, where
this new behaviour becomes most problematic.

Alternative requested solutions in order of preference:
1. revert to previous behaviour and provide a simple toggle for those who do
not want the pasted items to be selected.
2. only have the pasted items unselected if there is just one object selected.
3. provide a simple toggle for those who actually are copy-pasting within the
same document and don't want to have to select every object individually and
move them when they copy-paste multiple objects.
